“The CLASSICS” are the annual Queensland Wheelchair Basketball Championships coordinated by Sporting Wheelies. This event plays an important role in the development wheelchair basketball players, coaches, referees, team managers, scorebench officials, volunteer drivers and event administrators in Queensland.
The CLASSICS welcome players from all over Queensland, throughout Australia, and overseas. Players from novice through to elite level can participate in the event.

Competition Grades and Rules

Each team will play in a round robin style competition, A Grade will play a single round robin competition, and Social Grade will play a double round robin. Teams will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a loss, and 0 points for a forteit. At the conclusion of the competition the team with the highest number of points will play the team with the second highest number of points in a finals game to determine the Champion and Runner up team for each competition grade.

Please note the Technical Committee reserves the right to move players and/or teams based on their playing experience in order to ensure each grade of competition is fair and even.
Registrations
All Registrations to be completed online.
Registrations close: Wednesday 5th April
Registration Fees $180 a player.
Athletes enrolled and participating in a Sporting Wheelies Wheelchair Basketball Social Sport Program $150 per player.
Athletes may register as part of a team or register as an individual. Sporting Wheelies will allocate individual athletes to a team.
Refunds
Competitors wishing to withdraw may receive a full refund up until 31 March 2023. There will be no refunds after this date. Please note all withdrawals must be in writing. Withdrawals due to illness or injury must be accompanied by a medical certificate and supplied to sporting wheelies no later than Friday 28th April 2023.
Presentation Ceremony
The event will conclude with a presentation ceremony at approximately 2:15pm on Monday.
Awards being presented include: Champion team and Runners-Up, All Star 5 and Most Valuable Player (MVP) for each grade.*
All Star 5 and MVP awards are determined by a panel.
Volunteers and Officials
Volunteers and officials are needed to fill various positions for the event.

Meals and Entertainment
The sport center snack bar is available from 10am to 1pm all three days of the competition (gluten free and vegetarian options available).
Red bull is partnering with Wheelchair Basketball and Sporting Wheelies to provide participants free samples of their products and also a Red Bull DJ!
Car Parking and Wheelchair Storage
Sports Centre patrons will be able to park in Car Park 4 (click here for to open a map)
Players can store their wheelchairs overnight at The Sports Centre on Saturday 29 April and Sunday 30 April in the area designated by venue staff. Please ensure wheelchairs are placed neatly in the area (large wheels to the wall) Sporting Wheelies takes no responsibility for damaged, lost or stolen equipment (please remove all valuables) as they will not be supervised.
First Aid
1300 Medics will provide first aid at this event.
Conditions of Entry
All athletes agree to the terms and conditions as outlines on the registration forms. Athletes must have no outstanding debts to the Sporting Wheelies.
Interstate and international athletes do not need to be a must be a member of their state sporting organisation or national peak body. Interstate and International athletes must have no outstanding debts to Sporting Wheelies to participate.
Spectators
Spectators are welcome to attend the CLASSICS to support their friends, family, or to watch some of the best wheelchair basketballers in the country. There is no entry fee, and there is plenty of parking available in Car Park 4 at the front of The Sports Centre.
Spectators are asked to respect all athletes, volunteers, officials and event staff, failure to do so will result in the offending person/s to being asked to leave the facility.
